DOVER - Elizabeth (Betty) Shimamoto, formerly of Dover, died August 12, 2014 at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a battle with lung cancer. Born in Ballivor, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Kathleen (Monaghan) Dempsey. Betty worked for many years in banking in England, Canada, and the United States. She met her late husband, Edward Shimamoto in Goose Bay, Labrador while working for the Royal Canadian Bank and they married there on June 4, 1966. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: daily crossword puzzles, a nice box of wine, but her most cherished moments were those spent in the company of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Brian, his partner Eric and their son Liam, her daughter, Ann, her husband Scott, and their Boston Terrier, Brooklyn, and her tiara. A visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, Del. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
