SMYRNA - Elizabeth M. "Betty" Mackie passed away Friday, April 13, 2018. Born in Camden, N.J., on Jan. 8, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Miller Henry.
Mrs. Mackie retired after 30 years of service from Wesley's Restaurant, Fair Hill, Md., as the bookkeeper. An amazing cook, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren, and traveling. She had a love for all animals, however, horses were her favorite.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Nelson Ray Mackie; children, Terry Thompson (Paul), Greenwood, Mike Smith, Greenville, S.C., Don Smith (Virginia), Milton, Brian Mackie and Nathan Mackie, both of Elkton, Md.; siblings, Ronnie Henry (Leona), Baytown, Texas, Diane Reif (Tom), Audubon, N.J., Charlotte Kormann (Rocky), Gloucester, N.J., and Unity Marie Sowers (Rick), Westville, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mackie was preceded in death by her sons, Charles and John Smith; and brother, William Henry.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2018, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sharps Cemetery, Fair Hill.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home at the above address.
