MILFORD - Elizabeth Felton passed away on Monday, Aug. 7, 2017. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was born in Rowlesburg, W.Va. to the late Rodney and Lillian Felton.
Ms. Felton entered the U.S. Navy in 1951, as a college graduate and officer. She found a way into Navy Intelligence, and was stationed in Scotland. Despite the climate for women in the era, she earned respect for her skills in her craft. During her time in the Navy, Ms. Felton became a licensed fixed wing pilot, she loved to fly. By 1960, she was a Lt. Commander, and after spending several years in Europe she developed a great fondness for British sports cars and owned several. Her favorites were a 1957 Triumph TR-6, and a 1959 MG Miget. She did all of her own maintenance on those cars, including engine and transmission rebuilds. Ms. Felton moved to Dover in 1970 and taught art education at Dover Central Middle School for 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was an accomplished, master gardener.
Ms. Felton was predeceased by her brother, Dr. William H. Felton; and her sister, Shirley W. Handley. On Dec. 5, 2015, she was preceded by her best friend and life companion, Connie Guandique. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church of Dover, 631 South State Street. Interment will follow at Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers Ms. Felton asked that contributions be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
