SMYRNA - Elizabeth Ennis Smith, of Smyrna, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Fairfield Nursing Home, Crownsville, Md. She was 81.
Mrs. Smith was born March 22, 1926, in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Samuel Creadick Ennis and Dorcus Deakyne Ennis.
Mrs. Smith worked with her husband, who was a co-owner of the Smyrna Times newspaper, as an associate editor/secretary.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna and a life member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Smith was an avid bridge player and enjoyed going to the beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Smith in 1993; a brother, Victor Ennis; her stepmother, Mildred Mills Ennis; and a niece, Deanna Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth D. Smith Jr. and his wife Peggy of Denton, Md. and Creadick Smith of Smyrna; three grandchildren, Justin C. Smith, Amy Melchior and her husband, Ryan and Angela Marie Smith; a niece, Nancy Ennis Zelenka of Smyrna; and numerous nephews and cousins.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977; or to the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 345 Smyrna, DE 19977.
