DOVER - Elizabeth "Petti" Cox, 77, of Dover, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Van and Florence (Harlow) Coats. Petti attended Tower Hill School and graduated from Foxhollow School in Lenox, Mass. She later graduated from Katherine Gibbs in New York City and went on to work at Carl Byoir Associates, a public relations firm, for ten years. Returning to Wilmington to raise her family, she joined the Junior Board of the Delaware Hospital, where she held several positions. Petti was one of several women who started the Delaware Antique Show. She and her family moved to Dover in 1966 where she became active in campaigning for Pete DuPont for Governor, Laird Stabler for Attorney General, and Michael Castle for Governor. Petti joined the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital and became a volunteer for the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, and the Red Cross. She was an avid golfer at Maple Dale Country Club, where she also served on several committees, including the Board of Directors. Petti worked at Reichold Chemicals, retiring after 25 years. She then went on to work for the State of Delaware's Division of Public Health, and after 11 years, she retired in 2011. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Holstein Harvey, III, who was killed in World War 2; an aunt, Josephine Harvey Capelle; and a grandson, Brady Semans. She is survived by her daughters and sons, Sabra Horvat and husband Jeff, of Smyrna, Dawn M. Autman, of Hartly, and Lisa Dolph and husband Durrell, with whom she lived, and Rob and Tony Cox, of Rehoboth Beach. She would like to thank all the many doctors and nurses who took care of her during the past few years of her life, especially Steve Ruggles, who endured with her through her ups and downs. A Visitation will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 with Services to follow at 12 p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
