DOVER - Elizabeth Cora Lee Teague was born to Frank and Estelle James on January 1, 1940 in Riverhead, N.Y. She graduated from Riverhead High School in 1957 and began her government career at Westhampton Beach Air Force Base. Elizabeth grew up in a home where the written Word ruled and she was also taught by example by Christian parents at an early age. She accepted Christ at the age of 8 years old and joined the First Baptist Church of Riverhead under the leadership of Rev. John Joseph where she served faithfully as a member of the Young Adult Choir until coming to Dover. Elizabeth came to Delaware in 1970 where she worked as a Deputy Chief Contracting Officer at Dover Air and after 43 years of service. A conference room was named in her honor. She met her husband, J. C. Teague in Dover, and they were married on April 29, 1972. She joined Calvary Baptist Church in 1978 under the pasturage of Rev. Jones and Rev. Brinkley. She continued her dedicated service under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Richard M. Avant, serving faithfully for many years as Church Clerk, in addition to assisting with clerical duties at our Queen Street edifice, Trustee Board, Pulpit Committee, Treasurer of Calvary Baptist Institute, worked closely with the IMA, a member of the Alphabet Group and also a member of the A cappella Choir. She always stood ready to assist in whatever way she could. Her hobbies were canning, cooking, doing crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, traveling and shopping. She was truly a remarkable, loving, caring and gifted Christian woman. She is affectionately known as "Aunt Sis" by her nieces and nephews who love her dearly and as "Mom" by some who felt privileged to claim her as their own. We will always remember that witty sense of humor, for she believed that laughter was good medicine. Her ministry of help touched so many lives far and near and encouraged many with that sweet and gentle spirit of hers. She was indeed a role model to all who knew and loved her. She leaves a legacy that we will never forget. After a brief illness, she slipped quietly and peacefully into eternity. The battle is over, the victory is won. She is now with her Lord. To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband, J.C. Teague; two brothers, William James of Riverhead, N.Y. and Carl James of Riverhead, N.Y.; two sisters, Doris James of Dover, and Betty Ruth of Riverhead, N.Y.; six sisters-in-law, Rose James and Joan James of Riverhead, N.Y.; Paula Nance, Madge Dennis, Ann Burton and Selma Clark of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers-in law, Harrison Lee and William Lee of Charlotte, N.C.; goddaughter, Andrea Webster of Richmond, Va.; and goddaughter and niece, Tajae Jackson; godson, John C. Clark of Charlotte, N.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews of New York, Maryland, Georgia and Oregon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church, Rt. 8, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
