GREENWOOD - Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Biggs passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford on Apr. 13, 2017 following a lengthy illness.
Betty was born on Jun. 24, 1940 to her late parents Edward and Julia Genoe of Bethlehem, Pa. They later moved to Felton where Betty attended Felton School and graduated in June 1959. She then attended Brown Vocational School in Wilmington and graduated as a practical nurse; she went to work for the State of Delaware Board of Health. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Jay Biggs on Jun. 3, 1961 and beginning a family, she remained at home and sold Avon and assisted her husband with his auto repair business in Felton.
Betty's hobbies were creating attractive greeting cards which delighted many including her grandchildren; she enjoyed taking care of the yard with flowers being her delight. After attending a Bob Ross painting class, she discovered a talent for creating beautiful acrylic paintings to the delight of her husband and friends. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren playing games and sharing her artistic abilities.
She enjoyed travel to Switzerland as their 40th anniversary celebration. RV travel was a priority with Lancaster County being a frequent destination. After retirement, they incorporated RV travel with volunteer work in disaster areas and faith based building projects.
In the spring of 1973, Betty and Jay received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Betty's faith was strong to the end giving her great peace. Jay was ordained in the Mennonite Church in 1978 and Betty complimented his ministry through the next 20 years.
