DOVER - Eleanor Clement Paradee was the widow of W. Charles Paradee Sr. Mr. Paradee was the founder of Paradee Oil Company and Paradee Gas Company in Delaware. A longtime resident of Dover, Mrs. Paradee had been active in various civic groups including Dover Century Club, Round Table Club of Camden, and the Republican Party of Delaware. One of her most prized accomplishments was recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary International. During the administration of Governor Pierre S. du Pont IV, Mrs. Paradee served as coordinator of hostesses and docents for Woodburn and the historic executive residence for Delaware governors. She was also a volunteer at Woodburn when Michael N. Castle was Governor. Prior to Mr. Paradee's death in 1998, together they worked to enhance the state's educational institutions: University of Delaware and Delaware State University. The Paradees were also active in the development of Delaware Agricultural Museum collection and supported various projects for Wesley United Methodist Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Dover, and Byrd's AME, Clayton. Mrs. Paradee continued to support those churches in addition to Emmanuel AME, Hartly, Zion AME, Camden, and Mt. Friendship AME, Smyrna. Before moving to Dover with her first husband, the late Colonel Leonard L. Clement, Mrs. Paradee lived in Bermuda and worked for the U.S. Customs Service as an inspector. When she first arrived to Dover, she assisted at Dover Air Force Base, The Red Cross, and the Federal Credit Union. Col. Clement passed in 1975. Mr. William J. Smith Sr. served as caregiver for Mr. and Mrs. Paradee. The Remembrance Service will be 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover.
