Eleanor Brauch Peterson

Eleanor Brauch Peterson, 90

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Eleanor Brauch Peterson of Chestertown died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, in Heron Point, Chestertown. She was 90.

Born in Lakefield, Minn., on July 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and E. Beth (Achenbach) Brauch.

Mrs. Peterson graduated from Mankato High School in Minnesota with the class of 1935, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Minnesota in 1939.

In 1940, she married Henry B. Peterson, who predeceased her in 1982.

Mrs. Peterson taught high school English for one year and later worked for several years at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

She then was an English consultant at the Swedish Embassy for 11 years and worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library as a secretary, administrator and personal assistant for 15 years.

After her retirement, Mrs. Peterson volunteered with the Smithsonian Institute for five years before moving to Chestertown.

She enjoyed skiing and tennis, and loved the beach, especially vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with family.

She is survived by a son, Erik Peterson of Cape Charles, Va.; two daughters, Kristin Harms of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Karin Peterson of West Hartford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Erika Peterson, Charles A. Peterson, Elisabet Harms Crail and Charles P. Harms; and her beloved dog, Hattie.

Graveside memorial services will be held in Minnesota at a later date.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 235 Centreville, MD 21617.
