Edwena Lambert Greene, 101

OCALA, Fla. - Edwena Lambert Greene, of Ocala, formerly of Milford, Del., passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, in the Oakhurst Nursing Center, Ocala. She was 101.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1906, in McGaheysville, Va., daughter of the late Edgar Louis and Sarah Gertrude (Weaver) Lambert.

Mrs. Greene began her teaching career in 1952 and taught English to more than 3,000 seventh-graders in the Milford School District before retiring in 1970.

She stayed active after retirement with volunteer work at the Milford Public Library and Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Greene was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford, where she had served as an elder and was a member of the Milford New Century Club.

She lived in Milford 67 years before moving in 2000 to Florida to live with her daughter, Jane.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Beckwith Greene; and a daughter, Sarah Lambert Greene.

She is survived by three children, Jane Greene Berger of Ocala, David B. Greene Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., and Virginia Greene Tannenbaum of Fairfield, Ohio; six grandsons, Victor David Berger of Wilmington, Del., Jeffrey Allen Berger of McGaheysville, Paul David Greene of Upper Darby, Pa., Thomas Gavin Greene of Raleigh, Benn Harold Tannenbaum of Rockville, Md., and Timothy Greene Tannenbaum of Fairbanks, Alaska; a great-granddaughter, Logan Daniele Tannenbaum of Rockville; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be held privately at the Milford Community Cemetery in Milford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 172, Milford, DE 19963; or to Bayhealth Foundation, 640 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901; or to the Heifer International Foundation, 1015 Louisiana St., Little Rock, AR 72202.
