Edward T. Hammond Sr., 80

DOVER - Edward T. Hammond Sr., of Dover, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Heritage Center, Dover. He was 80. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Horace D. and Grace Clark Peel Hammond. He was a graduate of the Eckles College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and had moved from Pottstown, Pa., to Dover in 1968. He had retired from the Dept. of Public Instruction (D.O.E.) in 1996. Ed had been a member of the BPO Elks in Dover and was a long time member of the Strichter Masonic Lodge of Pottstown, Pa. In years past, Ed had served as a Coach with the Camden-Wyoming Little League and was an avid Base Ball Fan. He enjoyed the Phillies and the Delaware Blue Rocks but was especially fond of those moments he spent watching his grand daughter play softball and his grandson playing in Little League. In his younger years he enjoyed the time spent traveling with his late wife, Jean Foglel Hammond, and especially her being his partner in the Dover Dance Club. Besides Boating and Bowling, Ed most recently was fond of the time spent at playing Bingo and Scrabble with his many friends at the Heritage of Dover. A genuinely nice person, Ed will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Horace D. Hammond. He will be greatly missed by his children, Edward T. Hammond Jr. of Magnolia, two daughters, Linda J. Hammond of Felton, and Lisa H. Olmstead of Magnolia; four grandchildren, Brandon Hammond of Wilmington, David Olmstead, Hayden Olmstead, and Jillian Olmstead all of Magnolia; and sister, Nancy Carragher of Pennsylvania. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St., Dover. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Donations in his memory may be forwarded to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Condolences may be forwarded to ambruso@aol.com.
