Edward 'Earl' Gore, 69
Edward "Earl" Gore of Greenville, formerly of Dover, Del., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, in Golden Villa Nursing Home, Greenville after a long illness. He was 69.
Mr. Gore was born Aug. 2, 1937, Wayne County.
He was a 1955 graduate of Dillard High School, Goldsboro and attended Delaware Technical & Community College.
Mr. Gore enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He served his country proudly and gathered many accolades and awards for his servitude for his country including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he was employed at the Delaware Correctional Institute in Smyrna, Del. until he was forced to retire due to his health.
He was a passionate sports fan. He also loved to play sports and was a boxer in the military, a marathon runner and enjoyed bowling in his spare time.
Mr. Gore was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Dover under the leadership of Pastor Richard Avante. He was the founder of the Delaware Retiree Club after his retirement. He was also a member of Dover Air Force Base Military Lodge No. 28, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Williams Kornegay; his father, Johnnie Boddie; his stepfather, James Kornegay; two brothers, Excel Gore and William Kornegay; a sister, Julia Ann Collins; and a stepson, Derrick Armstrong.
He is survived by two daughters, Elder Linda G. Hammond of Greenville; Kim Gore Knight of Tarboro; two brothers, James "Bubba" Gore of Waterbury, Conn.; Richard Earl Best of Greenville; a sister, Wilma Kornegay Summers of Jersey City, N.J.; special cousins, Cleo Mabry and her husband, Skip of Palm Beach, Fla.; a stepson, Vincent Armstrong of Dover; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Armstrong Freeman of Goldsboro; a devoted friend, Diane Wilson of Dover; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, 900 S. George St.; Goldsboro.
