Edward F. Chambers Sr.

Chambers, Sr., 79 TOWNSEND - Edward F. Chambers, Sr., age 79 of Townsend, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Wilmington, on August 3, 2015. Mr. Chambers was born June 6, 1936 in Smyrna, the son of the late Luther and Alta Chambers. He worked for Chrysler for 25 years. Ed loved fishing & rabbit hunting with his father-in-law, Alfred Faries. He was a lifetime member of the Bluegrass Association and considered himself to be a shade tree blue grass picker. He played the guitar, but his main instrument was the Dobro. Ed also dabbled with the 5-string banjo. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks, especially his '93 Dodge Dakota. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jennings "Turk" Chambers; a sister, Agnes Holland; a brother-in-law, Richard Holland; a brother, Harold Chambers; a nephew, Turk Chambers, Jr.; other sisters, Vivian Sammons and Margie Jarvis; a brother-in-law, Edward Sammons; a nephew, Todd Sammons; and his daughters, Deborah, Mary Ellen and Donna Marie. . He is survived by his son, Edward F. "Luke" Chambers, Jr. of South Carolina; two sisters, Beatrice Whalen of Clayton and Jeanette Donavon and her husband Bill of Smyrna; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, whom he helped raise, Devin and Kailyn Biggs; and his good friends, Marvin and Terri Biggs. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
