Edward C. Grimshaw, 90

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - We joyously celebrate the rich and long life of Ed Grimshaw, of Millsboro, Del., and recently Plattsburgh, where he resided with family for the past year. He passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007. He was 90.

Ed was born in 1917 near the Canadian border in Champlain.

He spent much of his career as a store manager with Agway Inc., retiring from the Middletown, Del., location after nearly 50 years of service.

Ed never missed a day of work in his life.

He led an active and energetic social life, and made many friends along the way in his memorable life journey.

Ed is remembered for his commitment to community leadership and volunteerism, for which he received the Jefferson Award for Public Service.

He enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cards, casino trips, bowling, and playing shuffleboard.

Ed loved being with his longtime friends at the Indian River Senior Center in Millsboro, Del., and new friends at the Senior Center in Plattsburgh.

We will never forget his quick smile, charm, humor and love of storytelling, including his incredibly accurate memory for dates and details.

In July 2007, Ed celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by 80 friends and family from across the country with a surprise party in New York.

Thanks to Gerri Dumesnil for her efforts in organizing this surprise, which gave him much joy and many happy memories at the end of his life.

He was preceded in death by his companion of 12 years, Helen Kiesel; and previously by his wife of 30 years, Joyce (Dumas) Grimshaw.

His memory is held dear by his daughter, Kynda Annable and her husband John; stepdaughter, Jayla Boire; and sister, Theresa Boire.

A memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Mary Mother of Peace, Del. 24 and Del. 5, Oak Orchard, Del., followed by a luncheon reception at the Georgia House, Main Street, Millsboro.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck.
