Edward Burt 'Ned' Slaughter Jr.
REHOBOTH BEACH - Edward Burt "Ned" Slaughter Jr. of Rehoboth Beach and Hancock, N.H., died peacefully Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in Rehoboth Beach.
Mr. Slaughter was born in Glenolden, Pa.
He attended schools in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Mr. Slaughter served honorably in World War II.
He retired from the engineering division of General Foods, Dover, in 1979.
Mr. Slaughter loved hiking, swimming and enjoyed reading books on many topics. He liked to write poetry and was considered a good writer.
He was dearly loved by his many friends and family.
Mr. Slaughter's ancestors originally lived in what was called The Old Slaughter Farm, west of Dover.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Burt Sr. and Elizabeth Eleanor (Campbell) Slaughter; and a sister, Elizabeth Virginia (Slaughter) Strombeck.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace (Green) Slaughter; a daughter who he always called the apple of his eye, Patricia Susan Slaughter of Boston and Rehoboth Beach; and a sister, Sara Joan (Slaughter) Seward of Northport, Fla.
Private graveside services for close friends and family will be Thursday Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
