Edna Estelle (Russell) Spages, 86
DOVER - Edna Estelle (Russell) Spages, of Dover, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 86.
She was born in Wallington, N.J., to the late Howard J. and Emma J. Russell.
Mrs. Spages grew up in Hawthorne, N.J., where she graduated from high school and eventually resided with her husband, Fred Spages.
Together they opened Fred's Delicatessen in town, and the place became a gathering spot for the local school children at lunch time.
Edna enjoyed bowling, participating with the Swingers dance club, playing pinnacle, knitting, making crafts, taking cruises, and spending time with her family at their little cabin in the woods in Montague, N.J.
After her husband passed, she continued to reside in Hawthorne for many years, eventually moving to a senior complex in Matamoras, Pa., and then ultimately, residing with her daughter in Dover the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Fred Spages; grandson, Ralph "Buddy" Green; and sisters, Evelyn, Vivian and Eleanor.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred R. Carol Lee Spages of Newton, N.J.; daughters, Linda J. Green of Dover, and Ellen L. and Greg Sheehan of Jefferson, N.Y.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one niece.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Dupont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
Interment will be in Sharon Hills Cemetery, Dover.
