DOVER - Edith Lucille Cain Wallace was born on February 1, 1932 in Goldsboro, Caroline County, Md. to the late Wilbert Worthington Cain and Emma Augusta Downes Cain of Marydel, Md. She departed this life on March 13, 2016 at Westminster Village, Dover. She graduated from Lockerman High School, Denton, Md. in 1949. With directions from her father, namely, "If you are not going to school, you have to get a job" her journey in the world of work began. Edith eventually moved to Chestertown, Md. and secured employment with Campbell Soup Company in 1961; she remained on this job until 1980. Edith joined Fountain United Methodist (now known as New Christian Chapel of Love), Worton, Md. and became a faithful and dedicated member of the Blue Ribbon Chorus. She also made many friendships which have lasted over the years. Edith relocated to Wilmington, to become the primary caregiver for her mother. During this time she also worked in the private homes of several families. While in this locale, she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. William E. Manley and later Rev. Christopher Sims. She later transferred her membership to In Fellowship where Rev. Sims continued to be her pastor and affectionately referred to her as "Miss Edie." Sister Wallace joined Zenith Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star in February 1983. She was a dedicated member of Eureka Grand Court Heroines of Jericho, Cyrene Council of Crusaders, Deborah Court Royal and Exalted Degree of Amaranth and Mecca Court Daughters of Isis. Her greatest accomplishment and one of her proudest was to have been elected to the office of Worthy Matron on December 15, 1996. She served her term with dignity, dedication and love. Her active participation in the Eastern Star ceased with her move to Dover, Del. in 2005. Here she had the support of her son and his wife as well as family in the area as she had begun to experience more serious health issues. No matter where she lived, it was important for Mrs. Wallace to worship God and fellowship with other saints. And so she joined Whatcoat United Methodist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Alice Johnson Ervin. She was a member in good standing until her health began to fail and she was admitted to Westminster Village on August 7, 2007. Here she remained until God, in his infinite wisdom and mercy, called her to rest. In addition to her parents, family members who preceded her in death include her brothers, Clifton and George "Purnell" Cain; grandson, James E. Cain, Jr.; and nephews, Dennis Cain and Clifton Cain, Jr. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her son, James E. Cain, Sr. (Mary) of Dover; sisters, Gwendolyn O. Roberts and Rev. Ruth C. Evans, Dover and Alice L. Johnson (Charles), Millington, Md; brother, Wilbert I. Cain, Jr. (Alfreda), Newark; two grandchildren, Jarvis (Monica) Cain, Bowie, Md. and Jeronica Cain, Charlotte, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Jessie, Jade, Jara, Jarvis, Jr. and Madison; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Julai and Ja'kaila; uncles, Elder James Calvin Brown (Dinah) and Marvin Brown; brother-in-law, Ellsworth Tolliver; sister-in-law, Vester Cain; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends and church families.
