DOVER - Edith A. Sykes, of Dover, born June 4, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., passed away from this life on Jan. 7, 2012, with her family by her side. She was a devoted Jehovah's Witness and spent her life serving and praising Jehovah and spreading His word. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Alice Watson; husband of 38 years, Charles Sykes Sr.; brother, James Watson; nieces, Vanessa Watson, Nikisha Watson, and Carol Ann Purnell; and grandsons, Robert Sykes, Chase Sykes, and Marcus Ware. She is survived by her siblings, Harvey and Brenda Watson, Gilbert Watson, and Gertrude Purnell, all of Philadelphia, and Margie Satterfield of Deptford, N.J.; her children, Charles "Butchy" Sykes Jr. of Smyrna, Roy and Delores Sykes of Dover, Carmella and Axel Wetterich of Greer, S.C., Boyd "Poppy" Sykes of Dover, Michael Sykes of Alpharetta, Ga., Christopher and Tracey Sykes of Dover, Dawn and Warren Locke of Newport News, Va., Darryl Sykes Sr. of Dover, Joreen Sykes of Wilmington, and Nicole "Nikki" Sykes of Smyrna. Also left to survive her are 17 nieces and nephews, 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a host of great-nieces, nephews, and cousins; and long-time foster son, Richard Jones of Hamilton, Bermuda. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 450 Upper King Rd., Felton, DE 19943.
