DOVER - Dwayne Lavender Sr. of Dover died suddenly Sun-day, Jan. 21, 2007, while spend-ing a weekend in Atlantic City, N.J. with his wife. He was 70.
Mr. Lavender was born July 19, 1936, in Blackbird, son of the late Pearl (McGinnis) and Arthur Lavender.
He worked for Grubb Lumber Co. in Wilmington for 45 years, where he served as vice president of operations for the past 25 years.
Mr. Lavender was an avid bowler and spent countless hours working in his vegetable garden. Eating crabs and hosting barbecues for his family were two of the things he loved most. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife.
He enjoyed attending Blue Hen football games with his brother Sherman and his neph-ews Ray, Sherman Jr. and George. He was also a dedicated Eagles fan. He shared his passion for sports by coaching Little League Baseball in the M.O.T. and Smyrna areas for more than 25 years. He taught others the value of good sportsmanship and stressed education to those he coached.
Mr. Lavender will be remem-bered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a dear friend. He lived a full life and, through his many inter-ests, touched the lives of others in countless ways.
In addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Lavender and a daughter-in-law, Janet Lavender.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanor (Burris) Laven-der; two daughters, Linda Laven-der and Dawn Lavender; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne Jr. and Lisé Lavender and Donald Lavender; three brothers and their wives, Dennis and Ethel Lavender, Dewey and Margie Lavender, Sherman and Marie Lavender; a sister-in-law, Mary Lavender; nine grandchil-dren, Dwayne III, Lindsey, Don-ald Jr., Kristi, Justen, Toni, Kayla, Maegan, and Brandon; a great-granddaughter, Nykole; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown
Funeral services will be noon Friday in the funeral home.
