Durward B. 'Short' Conley, 96
HARTLY - Durward B. "Short" Conley of Hartly died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, in Green Valley Pavilion Nursing Home, Smyrna. He was 96.
Mr. Conley was born Nov. 26, 1910, in Dutch, W.Va., son of the late Thomas Nelson Conley and Ella Jane (Williams) Conley.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Conley was a farmer in his younger years and then worked at Latex, General Foods and Silo.
He loved music and gardening.
Mr. Conley was a member of the Dover Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 1949.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. Conley; and four brothers, Michael C. Conley, Raymond Conley, Arthur Conley and Patrick Conley.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Margaret Ope (Allen) Conley; four sons and two daughters-in-law, James F. and Dawn Conley of Harrington, Larry W. and Barbara Conley of Greenwood, Durward L. "Willie" Conley of Hartly and Bobby G. Conley of Hartly; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lovie J. and Bobby Harris of Cordova, Md., and Vivian Ruth Kemp of Ridgely, Md.; a brother, Thomas E. Conley of Copen, W. Va.; a sister, Rainy R. Conrad of Napier, W. Va.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be noon Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
