Dr. Thomas Joseph Welliver DOVER - Dr. Thomas Joseph Welliver of Dover (Pickering Beach) died Monday May 17, 2010 at Kent General Hospital. He was 78. Dr. Welliver was born August 12, 1931 in Ashland, Pa. to the late William A. Welliver and Louisa Quinton Welliver. He had worked as an Educational Administrator with the United States Department of Justice, building rehabilitation programs. He served as Dean of Students at Post College in Waterbury, Conn. Dr. Welliver was Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Dubois Area School District, as well as Superintendent of Schools for the Penns Manor District, Pa. He was a member of the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University. He retired from the United States Department of Justice as Chief Psychologist at the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa. Dr. Welliver was a member of Masonic Union Lodge Number Seven. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and past-president of the Lewisburg Rotary Club. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. In his youth he was a Pennsylvania State Wrestling Champion and was later inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. He was captain and coach of the first wrestling team at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed fishing and oil painting. Dr. Welliver is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Welliver of Dover; three daughters, Heather W. Schoenborn and her husband Dr. William Schoenborn of Arlington, Va., Hilary Welliver of Dover, Tamys Hoffman, and her husband Dr. David Hoffman of Bozeman, Mont.; grandchildren, Bethany J. Geleskie, Andrew, Austin, Maria and Victoria Hoffman. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904.
