Colonel Dr. Ronald G. Sarg (USAF, ret.), 77
DOVER - Colonel Dr. Ronald G. Sarg (USAF, ret.) of Dover, Delaware, passed away on July 22, 2022 after a lifetime of service to the United States and the men and women in uniform that defend it.
Col. Sarg's devotion to others was apparent from an early age. Born and raised in New York, he worked summers as a certified life guard at Staten Island's South Beach. He graduated from Curtis High School and Wagner College.
Col. Sarg served combat duty in Vietnam and made the U.S. Air Force his career. He was posted to military medical facilities in Ismir, Turkey; Eglin AFB, Florida; Cannon AFB, New Mexico; McGuire AFB, New Jersey; and the 436th Medical Group at Dover AFB. He retired from active duty in 1993.
Sharing his knowledge with others was Col. Sarg's next calling. After receiving a Masters of Education from the University of Delaware, he was an instructor at Polytech Adult Education in Dover and the University of Pennsylvania dental school. His students went on to rewarding professional careers throughout the eastern United States.
Col. Sarg never stopped serving. In retirement he was a passionate advocate for U.S. military veterans and families. He was the Dover Chapter President of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Chairman of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, using both platforms to push for national and state-level policies to benefit veterans and active duty service members with housing, medical care, suicide prevention, and education.
Throughout his life Col. Sarg embodied the values of service, professionalism, and duty. He earned the respect of all that knew him.
Col. Sarg is survived by Jean Sarg, his wife of 29 years; daughter, Cristin Sarg of Glasgow, Scotland; brother, Larry Sarg of Newport Beach, California; stepson, Mike Taylor of Falls Church, Virginia; and stepdaughter, Paige Taylor of Asheville, North Carolina.
