DOVER - Douglas Andrew Van Sant, Sr. passed away, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Kent General Hospital.
Mr. Van Sant was born February 23, 1935, in Dover, Delaware to the late Andrew W. Van Sant and Anna Louise Phillips Van Sant.
Mr. Van Sant was an Army veteran and attended both Wesley College and the University of Delaware. He worked for many years as a professional land surveyor for the City of Dover and several private enterprises. He was also a small business owner, having run advertising for the Blue Hen Mall and other Delaware businesses.
Mr. Van Sant loved his community and was active across all civic engagements, including working as the Reading Clerk for the Delaware State Legislature, was a member of the Capital School Board and was also known as the voice of the Dover High School Band. Doug also enjoyed art, history and was a private pilot.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Purnell.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Ann Goodman Van Sant of Dover; his son, Douglas A. Van Sant, Jr. of Washington, DC, his daughter in-law Jo Anne Poblete Van Sant and his beloved grandkids, Brooklyn and Charlotte Van Sant.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (RT.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Skin Cancer Association, Delaware Veterans Home, or First State Animal Shelter and SPCA.
