Dorris Elizabeth Steele-Cruson

SMYRNA - On the afternoon of Friday, Mar.18, 2011, Dorris concluded her journey of life and began her new life eternal. She is predeceased by her husband, James P. Cruson Sr.; sisters, Lavoura Akin, Margaret Golt, Violet Lowman, Mary Oliphant; and a special niece, Lois Weed. She is survived by her children, James P. Cruson Jr. and his wife Denise; Dorris E. Wheeler and her husband Frank; her brothers, Chalmers, Carlton and Hope Steele; her grandchildren, Steven E. Wheeler, James P. Cruson III, Tanya D. Wheeler, Lindsey R. Buckson, Shawn M. Cruson and their families which include seven great-grandchildren. Her many nieces and nephews including Lavoura and Ralph Cahall and Carl and Julie Steele who, with their children, provided many years of love, kindness, and care. Along her journey, she enjoyed and shared her love of life with family and friends. She is best remembered as an avid bowler, a passionate fisherwoman, working on her farm, traveling with family and her never ending hugs. As the pace of her life slowed, she crafted cherished afghans for family and friends. She drove and chaperoned hundreds of local children to the roller skating rink in Dover for 18 years. She truly enjoyed seeing friends and acquaintances at the weekly family dinner gatherings in local area restaurants. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2011 at 12 noon in the chapel of Faries Funeral Home, located on 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, DE. Friends may call for a viewing at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peters Episcopal Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Peters Episcopal Church in Smyrna.
