Dorothy P. Starkey, 86

NEWARK - Dorothy P. Starkey of Newark, formally of Millington, Md. and Chestertown, Md. died peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2007, with her youngest daughter and caregiver Cindy Bailey at her bedside in Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington. She was 86.

Mrs. Starkey was born in Linwood, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Wavia Robinson Thorpe.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed country music, dancing, shopping and playing cards.

Mrs. Starkey was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, George Alexander; a grandson, David Alexander Jr.; and two sisters, Jean Deisem and Joann Starkey.

She is survived by two sons, David Alexander and his wife, Donna of Georgetown, Joe Alexander and his wife, Nancy of Golts, Md.; two daughters, Dottie Pratt and her husband, Jack of Millington, and Cindy Bailey of Middletown; a stepson, William Starkey and his wife, Marlene of Chestertown, Md.; a brother, Charles Thorpe and his wife, Ann of Oxford, Pa.; four sisters, Catherine Alexander and Janice Bramble, both of Millington, a very special sister, Nancy Teat of Millington, her sister and best friend, Charlotte Conti and her husband, Nick of Audubon, Pa.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a grandson, Chad Bailey.

Funeral services where Friday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, Md.

Burial was in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Millington, MD 21651.
