DOVER - Dorothy E. 'Dottie' May, of Dover, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in her home. She was 85. Dorothy was born on Dec. 6, 1924, in Queens, N.Y., daughter of the late Irving and Minerva (Gottmann) Merkel. When living in New York she worked as a school bus operator for 20 years and was a license school bus instructor in the state of New York. She was an active member of the Marydel Immaculate Conception Church, the Mamie Warren Senior Center, Harvest Years Senior Center and the Modern Maturity Center. She loved to volunteer with the Golden Eagle Shop. She was a charter member of the Dover Modern Maturity Center Mummers and Line Dance Instructor. She was a charter member of the Dover Columbiettes #4182. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis May; and brother Stanley Merkel. She is survived by her children, Allen May of Dover, Nancy Wood and her husband Peter of Philadelphia, Pa., Warren May and his wife Valerie of Germantown, Md.; grandchildren, Hattie Conaughty and her husband Joseph, Henry May, Audrey May and Olivia May; and a great-grandchild Zoey Matheny. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street, Marydel, Md. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
