Dorothy C. Manship, 80

DENTON, Md. - Dorothy C. Manship of Denton passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in the Caroline Nursing Home, Denton. She was 80.

Mrs. Manship was born in Harrington, Del., daughter of the late Jennings Luff Cahall and Mabel Elizabeth Bailey Cahall.

She was a graduate of the Harrington High School.

Mrs. Manship's early years were spent in Denton, where she was the manager of the Montgomery Ward catalog store for more than 15 years. After a short retirement, she went back into the workforce and accepted a position at the People's Bank in Denton, where she enjoyed her work and met many wonderful co-workers and friends. She was employed there until final retirement in the early 1990s.

She moved to Easton in 1974 after marrying her second husband. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in the yard, and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Manship became an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton. She also was a member of the Bayside Quilters, the Talbot County Unit of the Easton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Ladies of the Easton Elks Lodge BPOE 1622. She and her husband made many lifelong friends through their affiliation with the Easton Elks Lodge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Wise Shaffer Jr., May 8, 1957; her second husband, R. Wilson Manship, Jan. 22, 1988, and a sister, Esther Calloway.

She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Kathy S. and Dennis Dill of Denton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Julie A. and Toby Wilson of Ellicott City, and Denise K. and Wayne West of Frankford, Del.; a great-grandson, Owen West; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Willis of Harrington.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601.
