Dorothy Alberta(Summers) Lake, 85

FELTON - Dorothy Alberta (Summers) Lake of Felton passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the Milford Center after a long illness. She was 85.

She was born May 7, 1921, daughter of the late Lyndon and Annie Summers.

She was affiliated with Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God, Camden for the past nine years.

Dorothy was born in Kenton, where she attended school through the eighth grade. She started working at a very early age, housecleaning and working in local factories.

Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to the late James Roland Lake in 1941. From this union, nine children were born: four sons and five daughters.

She enjoyed life and was a very hard worker who never liked to miss a day of work. She was a devoted mother and lovingly took care of her nine children. Dorothy was very outspoken and let you know what was on her mind.

She was a devoted member of the Milford Senior Center and did not like to miss one day. If she missed the bus to the center, she would promptly call one of her daughters to come pick her up and take her there.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roland Lake; a son, Alvin Edward Lake; a sister, Pauline Jackson; and a son-in-law, Sylvester Davis.

She is survived by eight children, Joyce Lake of Milford, James Lake of Hartford, Conn., Latricia Davis of Milford, Diane Harris and husband Austin of Felton, Janice Warren and husband Willis of Felton, Debbie Bagwell and husband William of Millsboro, Bryant Lake and wife Valerie of Rochester, N.Y., and Ronald Wayne Lake of York, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and five close friends, Louella Baines, Lillie Whaley, Myra Jones, Yvonne Graham and Marion Bagwell.

Funeral services will be Saturday at noon in the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, 145 Center St., Camden, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Milford Community Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Milford.
