Dorothea Spence Abbott, 82
Dorothea Spence Abbott of New Castle passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 82.
Mrs. Abbott was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Anna May (Weaver) Spence.
She graduated from Delaware School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Abbott worked for the Delaware Division Hospital for several years and later worked for Dr. Thomas and Dr. Hershon"s office in Richardson Park, Delaware. Retiring in 2000, after 54 years in the nursing field.
Mrs. Abbott was devoted to her family and her work. She enjoyed knitting; yard work and loved animals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Abbott Sr., in November 2006.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, James E. Jr. and Deborah Abbott of Charlotte, N.C., Joseph Wayne and Barbara Abbott of Milton; grandsons, James E. Abbott III, and his wife, Jennifer of Lansdale, Pa. and Nicholas Ryan Gauger; granddaughters, Rachel L. Hilbish and her husband, David C. of Carrolton, Ga., Julie Ann Adams, Jamie Renee Gauger and Jenny Lynn McFadden; and great-grandchilden, Megan Emily Abbott, Caitlin Ashley Abbott, Dillon Isaacs Adams, Madison Olivia Adams, Brandon Joseph Kelly, Matthew Hilbish and Mark Hilbish.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. The Rev. Carol Terry will officiate.
Entombment will follow.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beebe Medical Center School of Nursing, East Market Street, Lewes, DE 19958.
