SMRYNA - Doris S. Murphy passed away on April 2, 2023, after a short illness.
Doris was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on August 16, 1941. Her family moved to Delaware when she was age 2. She attended school in Kenton and graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna in 1959. She worked at Preston Trucking in Cheswold, DE for 27 years until the company relocated; PPG for a brief time; Tom Baker Trucking Co. for about 10 years; then finishing her working career in the administration office at the Dover Mall until her retirement. After retirement, she worked part-time at McGinness Commercial Realty Co. in Dover until her illness.
Doris was an avid collector of many things like Beanie Babies, Bears, Christmas ornaments, Longaberger, and much more. Enjoyed shopping, reading, and watching crime/mystery TV shows. She was a member of Cheswold United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her son and grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Robert and Stella Slover; her sister, Joan Powell; brother, Robert.
She is survived by her son, Jay, of Smyrna; and three grandchildren, Ethan, Stephen, and Maddox, who were the love of her life as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends too numerous to mention. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A viewing will be held at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10:00 am -11:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Townsend Cemetery.
