Doris Louise Thomas, 85

FREDERICA - Doris Louise Thomas, of Frederica, departed this life on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 85.

She was born April 12, 1923, in Preston, Md., the daughter of the late William Hubbard and Sadie (Friend) Hubbard.

Mrs. Thomas attended the public schools of Caroline County, Md.

She married Lester Thomas and moved to Delaware.

Mrs. Thomas was employed in various poultry industry jobs for more than 40 years, retiring in June 1992.

As a hobby she loved gardening. She would faithfully plant and harvest a vegetable garden every year, sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends.

Mrs. Thomas had a great passion for cooking, which she shared with everyone.

Her greatest enjoyment was spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Thomas Sr.; and son, Lester Thomas Jr.

She leaves to mourn her loss two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Dawn Thomas, of Milton, and Kevin and Linda Thomas of Bethel; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Benjamin Beckett of Felton; three grandsons, Lester Thomas III of Las Vegas, Richard Thomas of Frederica, and Charlie Randall of Bethel; seven granddaughters, Montana Thomas of Lakewood, Fla., Brittany Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Hayley Thomas, Hannah Thomas, Ashley Randall and Alysha Randall of Bethel; one brother, Melvin Hubbard of Easton, Md.; one sister, Anna Jones of Philadelphia; a special friend, Charlie Worthy of Bridgeville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Zion AME Church, Ellendale, where friends may call two hours prior.

Viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover.
