Doris A. Howard, 95 GREENSBORO, Md. - Mrs. Doris A. Howard, 95, of Greensboro, died Thursday, May 27, 2010, in Caroline Nursing Home, Denton, Md. She was born on Feb. 2, 1915, in Queenstown, Md., to the late Maurice and Nellie May Bartlett Dragoo. Doris was a seamstress for the Denton Garment Company of Greensboro and then Ace Dress Company of Harrington, Del., until retirement. She was an accomplished pianist and organist from the age of 13 for the Greensboro Baptist Church serving the church for over 75 years. As a member of the church she also served as a much loved Sunday school teacher and many other positions through the years. Her life was spent serving God, husband, family and giving of herself so unselfishly. She was loved by her church family and all who ever met and knew her. She is survived by three children, Margaretta H. Griffith and husband Roland of Easton, Md., Dr. Maurice B. Howard and wife Ruth of Bel Air, Md., and Janet M. Wothers and husband Francis of Greensboro, Md.; one brother, Maurice A. Dragoo and wife Marie of Windsor, Colo.; five grandchildren, Deborah L. Beever and husband Bill of Denton, Md., Doris A. Lee and husband Chris of Easton, Md., Daniel R. Melvin and wife Wendy of Denton, Md., Pam Melvin of Ridgely, Md., Ivan Bartlett Howard and wife Erin of Bel Air, Md.; eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace D. Howard, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1933. Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Greensboro Baptist Church, 401 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where a visitation will be held at the church before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will be in Ridgley Cemetery, Ridgely, Md.
