Dorathy "Dottie" Wells, 85

DOVER - Dorathy "Dottie" Wells, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. She was 85. Dottie was born in Wilmington in 1922, the daughter of the late Romie and Dorathy King. Dottie lived for several years in Belgium with her husband Burt and traveled extensively through Europe. She also spent 30 years in Melbourne, Fla., before returning to Dover to live in Luther Towers in 2004. She was an avid golfer and decorator who loved to be out in her garden and was known for her gift of gab and keen sense of style. Dottie spent her free time volunteering at Luther Towers and decorating their common areas and could frequently be seen walking her new puppy GiGi. She was loved by all. She was predeceased by her husband, Burt Wells; and son, John Layton. She is survived by her sons, David Layton and Robert Layton; daughters-in-law, Frances Walsh and Joyce Layton; grandchildren, Angela Layton, Kimberly Layton Weingarten, Stephanie Layton, Ella Mae Layton, and Robert Layton Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Catherine Dorathy Weingarten and Alexandra Weingarten. Memorial services will be 6-8 p.m. Monday in Luther Towers, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity in her name. Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapel.
