MILFORD - Donnie Jean Mathys passed away at Delaware Hospice Center Milford, Del. on Monday, May 6, 2013. Ms. Mathys, was born in Hillman, Ark. on Nov. 12, 1931. She graduated from McCrory High School, in 1949. She worked in the accounting\bookkeeping field for many years and used her skills in many different civic organizations. Donnie enjoyed hobbies such as quilting, knitting, bingo, scrabble, camping, fishing, gardening, water skiing, and played cribbage. Donnie was very active in her churches serving on the Administrative Board and chairing many different committees. Every year she led the jam and jelly making for The United Methodist Church of Felton, De. She was also a Charter Member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church, in Rohnert Park, Ca. Ms. Mathys is predeceased by her loving husband Leonard Mathys; her father, Roy Emanuel Fowler; her mother, Pearl Pickett Fowler; her sister Dorothy Ellis; and her step-son, Leonard Lamont Mathys. Ms. Mathys, is lovingly remembered by one sibling, Fannie Mae Parrish of Patterson, Ark., her son, Shelby Thompson of Apple Valley, Calif., Gwyneth Martin, daughter of Riverside, Calif., Donald "Glenn" (Nancy) Nutter of Felton, Del., daughters Kathleen (Kitty) Daily, of Aurora, Ill., Sue Mathys, of Cerritos, Calif., and Shauna (Renee) Olea, of Cerritos, Calif. Ms. Mathys is also survived by grandchildren Amy Knight, Jessica (Geoffrey) Stokes, Rebecca Nutter (Dan Marsland), Erin Nutter, Christine (Darrell) Jackson, Frank (Kristen) Olea, and Brandy (Joey) Nunez, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A remembrance pot luck dinner will be held at the United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St. Felton, DE. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 6 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMC Youth Ministries, at United Methodist Church P.O. 247 Felton, DE or Delaware Hospice Care Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
