Donna J. Sturgeon, age 82, of Felton, Delaware passed peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
Donna was born on April 15, 1942, in Los Angeles, California to the late Robert Wayne Anderson and Muriel Anderson Deering. Donna lived her early years in Los Angeles, attending Venice High School and Santa Monica City College. In her youth, she was a lifeguard and a member of the Sea Scouts organization, where she spent many hours sailing the Pacific Ocean.
She met her husband, William Sturgeon, at church as a young adult where they quickly fell in love and married. They began building their family with the addition of four children - Deanna, William Jr., Darlene, and Daniel. The Sturgeon family enjoyed living in both Culver City and West Los Angeles, California for many years.
Donna served the Lord diligently throughout her life. She and her husband were dedicated to sharing the word of God as servant leaders of Church on the Westside in California until 1993, when Donna and William Sr. moved across the country to continue their ministry in Wyoming, DE -bringing Church on the Westside to the East Coast. Donna was blessed with a spiritual gift of hospitality; her selflessness was unparalleled, and her vibrant personality attracted people from all walks of life to her and her testimony.
Donna's devotion knew no bounds in her love of God, her husband, her family, and her friends. She remained youthful at heart throughout her years as a caring mother, a fun-loving grandmother, and as a new great-grandmother. She loved to travel between her children and grandchildren living in Delaware, Texas, and California. When she wasn't visiting family or enjoying the beach from coast to coast, she was traveling to Haiti as a long serving missionary. Donna spent over two decades of her life helping the children of Haiti and sharing the word of God. She was known as an incredible host, an honorary grandma to all who crossed her path, and a dedicated church volunteer. Most recently, Donna was involved with UNITED Church of Dover.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Sturgeon, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Deanna Luprete and her husband Joe of Lake Somerville, TX, William Sturgeon, Jr. and his wife Pauline of Felton, DE, Darlene Sturgeon-Rothe of Camden, DE, and Daniel Sturgeon and his wife Sommer of Wyoming, DE; brother, Robert Anderson and his wife Karolyn of Cedar Park, TX; grandchildren, Joey Luprete, Alex Luprete, Kristen Torres, James Aisthorpe, Amanda Sturgeon, Sherry Uchuion, Corin Uchuion, Evan Sturgeon, and Mykaela Sturgeon; great-grandchildren Samson, David, and Avi Giovanni.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. A viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday evening. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
