MILLSBORO - Donald R. "Duck" Shultie, age 80, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010. Born in Harrington, to the late Fred and Elizabeth Neighbors Shultie on April 22, 1930, he became a well known fixture in Millsboro as he and his beloved wife co-owned and co-operated Duck's Getty and Duck's Towing for fifty years. In addition, he served as a life member of Millsboro Volunteer Fire Dept., and on the VFW Volunteer Ambulance Service. He rose to the rank of Chief Engineer. He was a renowned servant, and helper to the citizens of Millsboro, often anonymously helping people in the dark of night. Many a young man got out of trouble with his "anonymous help." He was a member of the Delaware Towing Association, and manager of the Action Kids Men's Softball League. He sponsored many athletic scholastic organizations, and anything people asked him to do – he did it. He enjoyed fishing and camping, but most of all loved his family, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Brittingham Shultie; and his children, Steve and Gail Shultie of Montgomery Village, Md., Phil and Sue Shultie of Georgetown, Jeff and Sherry Shultie of Millsboro, and Dona and Barry Dean of Dagsboro; one sister, June Pennell, and her husband Sam of New Castle; nine grandchildren, Dustin, Seth, Brandon, Jason, and Hannah Shultie, and Brock, Josh, Tyler, and Colby Dean; two step-grandchildren, Pam Clowser and Eddie Hearn; three great-grandchildren, Sidney and Cierra Hearn, and Brooke Clowser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Tingle. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, where friends may call either Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., or two hours prior to the funeral on Friday. Rev. Ruth Chamberlain will officiate. Interment will be at Carey's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriot's Lane, Milford, DE 19963.
