Donald Lee 'Passy' Paswater, 58
Donald Lee "Passy" Paswater of Denton died of lung cancer Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, in the Hospice Center at The Pines, Easton. He was 58.
Mr. Paswater was born July 18, 1948, above the old post office in Greensboro, son of the late Earl Wilcox Paswater and Mary Naomi (Howard) Paswater. He was delivered by midwife Maude (or "Granny") and attended by Dr. Hiram Stonesifer.
He graduated from North Caroline High School in 1966. He was a member of the National Honor Society, was junior class and senior class president, and was student council president. He was a member of the track team and was captain of the basketball team. He was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Baltimore College of Commerce, where he graduated cum laude, 3.65 GPA, in 1970 with a B.S. degree in accounting.
He resided in Denton most of his adult life. He went to work for the Maryland Comptroller's Office and spent his entire career there working for Louis L. Goldstein for 28 years and William Donald Shaffer for three years. He retired in 2001 as assistant director of the Motor Fuel Tax Division.
Mr. Paswater was active in various national motor-fuel organizations, including the Federation of Tax Administrators-Motor Fuel Tax Section, and the International Fuel Tax Agreement. With IFTA, he was a past president and also had served as assistant commissioner for the state of Maryland from 1994 until his retirement, and also served on the Information Technology Advisory Committee for IFTA from 1997 until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Earl Paswater; a nephew, Jerry Paswater; and his faithful companion black Lab, Roscoe.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan E. Paswater; a son and a daughter-in-law, Benjamin Earl and Hilary Paswater of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Makena Paswater of Greensboro; a nephew, Tom Paswater of Coffeyville, Kan.; and two great-nieces, Kelli Paswater of Greensboro and Erica Mowrer, and her husband, Nate, of Petersburg, Pa.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, where friends also may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Greensboro Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 121 Sharp Road, Denton, MD 21629.
