Donald L. Chelton

SALISBURY - Donald L. Chelton passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, peacefully at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born on May 26, 1929 in Crisfield, he was the son of the late Thomas and Irma Sterling Chelton.
Donald attended schools in Crisfield. Upon graduating high school, he entered the United States Army. He was employed in the engineering department for the C & P Telephone Company for 38 years until retirement. Donald was an avid sports fan and during his younger years could often be seen playing baseball, softball and bowling. He is a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. Besides his passion for playing sports, he was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan. Donald was a member of the Salisbury Moose Lodge.
Donald is survived by three sons, Donnie J. Chelton of Pittsville, Butch Chelton of Salisbury, Howard Chelton and his wife Wendy of Pittsville; a daughter, Sandra C. Jones and her husband Bill of Salisbury; one brother, Bruce Chelton and his wife Terri of Oakland Park, Fla.; one grandson, Howard E. Chelton, Jr. and his wife Brittany of Mardela Springs; one great-granddaughter, Haven E. Chelton; one great-grandson, Brityn H. Chelton both of Mardela Springs, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bernice Chelton; and one brother, Tommy F. Chelton.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Hebron.
In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in Donald's honor to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 2071, Salisbury, MD 21802.
