Donald Delano Newson passed away peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
Donald was born in Smyrna, DE on August 25, 1933, to his late parents, John Howard and Pearl Margaret Tilghman Newson.
He proudly served his country in the Korean War and was a member of the Delaware National Guard for 30 plus years. Donald was a member of the Post #8 – Georgetown American Legion. He enjoyed his backyard garden where he grew the most amazing sunflowers! Most of all he loved spending time with grandchildren and playing with his dogs. Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years before she passed in 2017, Bonnie-Lou Newson; three brothers; one sister; and one stepsister.
He is survived by his son, Don Newson, II (Kathy) of Dagsboro, DE; daughter, Donna Apgar (John) of Smyrna, DE; son, Jeff Newson (Cecilia) of Georgetown, DE; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Services were held Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, DE followed by burial at Union Cemetery.
