Donald Clarence Overmyer, 73
CAMDEN - Donald Clarence Overmyer of Camden, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 73.
Mr. Overmyer was born in Dekalb, Ill., on Aug. 18, 1933, son of the late Ethan Sr. and Martha Shay Overmyer.
He married Nancy Mae Lovell on Jan. 15, 195,5 and was preceded in death by her on Dec. 10, 2005.
Mr. Overmyer served more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, including one year in Vietnam, and retired from his military career in 1973, at which time he moved his family to Delaware. He then worked for Delaware Department of Correction for 18 years until his retirement.
He loved his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid bowler up until the time of his death. He also enjoyed debating politics and discussing current events.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Overmyer was preceded in death by three infant children, two infant grandchildren and one brother.
He is survived by five children, Eileen Copeland and her husband Doug of Guys Mills, Pa., Donald E. Overmyer of Camden, Robert Overmyer and his wife Holly of Camden, Thomas Overmyer of Dover, and Dianne Skochelak and her husband Joe of Felton; a brother, Ethan "Junior" Overmyer of Hayward, Wis.; a sister, Helene Ziegler and her husband Rudi of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Eileen Dunn of Dover, Dorothy Dolbow of Camden, and Betty Overmyer of Effingham, Ill.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton where friends may call this evening from 7 to 9. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. The Rev. Milton Kemp will officiate.
