DOVER - Dominick A. Castiglioni, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home in Dover, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Wilmington on Nov. 13, 1920, to the late Luigi and Angeline Castiglioni. He was preceded in death by his stepsisters, Mary Nesci, Frances Mangiocci, and Elizabeth Vattillana; and stepbrothers, Michael Castiglioni, Anthony and Louis Travagline. After working for the Allied Kid Co. leather factory in Wilmington for several years, Dominick was inducted into the Army in 1942. He served as a staff sergeant in the 575th Air Material Squadron 69th Air Service Group in Fort Dix, N.J., and locations in the South Pacific, including Guam. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked over 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1982. He spent his retired years traveling, playing golf, and occasionally watching the horse races at Delaware Park. Everyone who met Dominick was struck by his youthful appearance and quick wit. Recently he enjoyed spending time and entertaining friends and neighbors at his home. He also spent many hours relaxing on the patio and playing with his dog, Chloe. Mr. Castiglioni will be sadly missed by his daughters, Maria Castiglioni and her partner Heather Keseric Castiglioni of Dover, and Angela Bogush of Dover; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Tanya Washington, Samantha Maxwell, Kelly and Chris Slaughter. The family wishes to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice, especially Liz, Ashauna, Aaron, and Marybeth, for their compassion and kindness in the care of our father. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 26, at Corleto-Latina Funeral Home, 808 N. Union St., Wilmington, DE 19805. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.
