DOVER — Delaware State’s football trip to Hawaii was never going to be easy.
But the excursion got a little more difficult today when the Hornets missed their flight to Hawaii for Saturday’s season opener.
According to reporter Stephen Tsai of the Star Advertiser, DelState missed the flight due to a “bus snafu” on its trip to New York’s JFK Airport.
The Hornets were making the trip from JFK so they could have a non-stop flight rather than having a layover in California. The flight is slated to take 10.5 hours.
Tsai quoted a DSU spokesperson as saying “We’re working on a plan" to get the team's 110-person travel party to Hawaii.
The Hornets and Rainbow Warriors are slated to play on Saturday at midnight ET.
"The travel is the big part of it because it's a 10-and-a-half, 11-hour flight," DSU coach Lee Hull said last week. "We've got to drive to JFK, three hours to get a direct flight
"Any time you play an FBS team, the competition level is greater so it's always a challenge. But I think our guys will be up for the challenge."
Betting services have made Hawaii at lesast a 38-point favorite in the contest.
