Delaware Park postpones live racing again today due to extreme heat

STANTON — For the second time in the past five, days, Delaware Park has postponed its live thoroughbred racing card due to excessive heat.

Today’s scheduled races will now be held on Thursday.

According to a press release from the track, the postponement was recommended by the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission, veterinarians and stewards, The heat index for the region is forecasted by the National Weather Service to be above 105 degrees.

Delaware Park also postponed racing last Saturday because of the heat.

Live racing at Delaware Park is held on a Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday weekly format for most of the 2024 meet. Friday cards will be added to the schedule on the following dates: Aug. 2, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11.

Closing day for the live racing season is Oct. 12th. Daily first race post time of 12:30 p.m.
