Dean Harry Helsel, 83

ROARING SPRING, Pa. - Dean Harry Helsel of Graystone Court Apartments, Roaring Spring, Pa., died Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Altoona Regional Health Systems, Altoona Campus. He was 83.

He was born in Roaring Spring, Pa. the son of the late Charles H. and Cecelia M. (Shaw) Helsel.

He married M. Madeline McCoy on Oct. 20, 1946 at St. Michael"s Church, Hollidaysburg.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington and attended Christ Church, Roaring Spring.

Dean retired in 1988 from H&A Electric, Dover and previously has been employed at Appleton Papers, Roaring Spring, McGraw Edison Transformer Division, Canonsburg, Pa., as a supervisor and he had worked in the electrical construction field for several years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the aviation engineers in the South Pacific.

He enjoyed woodworking and family genealogy.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Jean Helsel, Ellen Rozella Miller and James Glenn "Tongs" Helsel; and a son-in-law, Rex White.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Margaret Ann Foor and husband, Gary of Jacksonville, Fla. and Barbara Jean White of Roaring Spring; two sons, Terry Dean and wife, Lisa of Harrington and John Charles and wife, Karen of Felton; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today in the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc. Roaring Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Church, Roaring Spring by Dr. Lew Button.

Interment in Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, Pa.

Instead of flowers, contributions in Dean"s memory may be given to Christ Church, 7758 Woodbury pike, Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
