Schauber, 56 CHESTERTOWN - David Matthew Schauber passed away in the company of his family on Nov. 30, 2015 at Union Hospital in Elkton, succumbing to his illness. Born on Jan. 13, 1959, he was the son of the late Doris and Joseph Edward Schauber. David lived as fulfilled a life as any. He graduated Kent County High School in 1977 and graduated from Chesapeake College with an Associate's degree in Arts with a Medical Lab Tech Certification. He served in the Army from 1986 through 1991 as a cannon crewmember. During his service, he married Barbara Ervin on Aug. 29, 1986 and was stationed in Germany. Upon their return, he and Barbara made their home in Chestertown. David was a jack-of-all-trades having worked for various companies over the years including Coopers John Deere, Hufcor, Gillespie's, Domino's and most recently, various Post Offices along the Eastern Shore as a rural mail carrier. In 2009, he joined the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in Chestertown and served as Exulted Ruler for the 2014 term. In his downtime, he enjoyed fishing; travelling, partying it up, spending time with family and friends as well as making others laugh or think. He was a man of many convictions who was not shy about voicing them. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Schauber of Chestertown; his mother, Doris H McCleary-Schauber, also of Chestertown; and his wife, Barbara L Ervin-Schauber. He is survived by three brothers, Joseph Edward Schauber, Jr. of Cambridge, Ralph Allen Schauber of Illinois, and Ronald C. Schauber of Chestertown; a sister, Joyce Fisher of Newark; four daughters, Monica N. Schauber of Denton, Candice E. Rhoades of Stewartstown, PA, Eden C. Kinser of Tolchester and Amanda C. Gsell of Rock Hall; a granddaughter, Brenna L. Middleton of Denton; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be a wake in his honor held at the Elks Lodge #2474 at 8631 Bell Rose Lane in Chestertown on Sat., Dec. 19th at 2:00 pm. It is asked that all who attend please bring a covered dish.
