MILFORD - David Lee Smith of Milford died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in his home. He was 66.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 6, 1940, in Bridgeville, son of the late John and Rosa (Littleton) Smith.
He was a supervisor for Mohawk Electrical Systems Inc. in Milford for 42 years, retiring in 2005. He returned after six months off to part-time work with the same company.
He devoted most of his free time to his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He also enjoyed stock-car racing, especially dirt-track, and cooking.
Mr. Smith was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Stockley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria J. Smith, in 1991; a son, David L. Smith Jr., in 1963; four brothers, Ernest Smith, John Alvin Smith, James Roland Smith and Ray Smith; and five sisters, Alice Tucker, Joanne Murphy, Ethel Collins, Dorothy Shockley and Lydia "Reecie" Williams.
He is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Dana L. and Gregory W. Gilmore of Houston; a sister, Betty L. Ryan of Smyrna; and three grandchildren, Wesley David Gilmore, Casey Wharton Gilmore and Elle Jane Gilmore.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Bethesda United Methodist Church, c/o Gladys Harrison, 25491 Dogwood Lane, Millsboro, DE 19966; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
