LITTLE CREEK - David J. Hershberger Sr. of Little Creek passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 63.
Mr. Hershberger was born Feb. 23, 1944, in Dover, eldest of 12 children of the late Jonas and Lydia Miller Hershberger.
He was a truck driver, and drove for several companies on the Eastern Shore. He also owned his own trucking company, Hershberger and Sons.
He was a fan of country music and of all things trucking.
Mr. Hershberger was a member of the Maranatha Fellowship Church of Dover.
He was preceded in death by his companion of 35 years, Kay Biddle; and a son, David J. Hershberger Jr.
He is survived by his estranged wife, Sarah Hershberger of Middlefield, Ohio; a stepson, Walter "Eddie" Biddle of Dover; two daughters, Rachel Yoder and Ada Erb, both of Middlefield; a stepdaughter, Stella Biddle of Dover; eight brothers, Sam Hershberger, Atlee Hershberger, Lester Hershberger, Jonas Hershberger Jr., Menno Hershberger, Alvin Hershberger, Melvin Hershberger and Kelvin Hershberger; three sisters, Anna Bontrager, Rosa Mast and Esther Yoder; 19 grandchildren; and two lifelong friends, Jerry Durham and Larry Whitt.
Services will be 6 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Assn. of Delaware, 1021 Gilpin Ave., Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806.
