Darrell E. Swackhammer

Darrell E. Swackhammer, 72

SMYRNA - Darrell E. Swackhammer of Smyrna died Monday, April 9, 2007, at his daughter's home. He was 72.

Mr. Swackhammer was born Nov. 3, 1934, in Logan, Ohio, son of the late Clayton and Flossie (Edwards) Swackhammer.

He worked on the assembly line for Chrysler Corp. for 23 years before retirement.

Mr. Swackhammer was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed mowing grass and helping his family and friends with various tasks.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (McClain) Swackhammer; his daughter, Sheri A. Swackhammer of Taylors Bridge; two brothers, Kenneth Swackhammer of Columbus, Ohio and Doyne Swackhammer of Somerset, Ohio; a sister, Darlene Swackhammer of Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Merita McClain of Taylors Bridge.

Services will be noon Saturday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Instead of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Friendship Methodist Church, c/o of Pauline Shockley, 986 Taylors Bridge Road, Townsend, DE 19734.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
