MILFORD - Dale Cornelius Shockley of Milford departed this life after a lengthy illness Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in Nanticoke Hospital, Seaford. He was 48.
He was born Sept. 21, 1958, in Milford, to O'Neal Tisdale and the late Ellen Shockley Parker.
Dale was educated in the Milford School District and furthered his education in the U.S. military from 1979 to 1981.
Later, he met and married Yvonne Bowe. To this union three children were born whom he adored.
Dale was raised in a Christian home where Christ was taught and practiced. During his youth, he was an active member of Siloam A.M.E. Church, where he sang on the youth and conference choirs. He was also a member of the usher board and Y.P.D. He attended many other churches where he was asked to utilize his gift by singing solos and in choirs.
He held various jobs, including employment at the post office in New Castle, and at Wesley College and Winner Ford, both in Dover. During his youth, he enjoyed working at the store of his Great Aunt Libby, with whom he had a special relationship.
Dale was a fun-loving person with a giving heart. Whatever he had, he would share with others. His favorite food was potato salad; wherever he went to eat, he would ask for it. One of his favorite songs was "God Has Smiled on Me."
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years, Yvonne Shockley; five children, DaShon James of Ellendale and Tykwan A. James, Dalneisha V. Shockley, Ariel D. Shockley and Dale C. Shockley Jr., all of Milford; seven grandchildren, Jadyn, Camille, Shaea, Tykwan Jr., Tykwan III, Dalen and Makhyla; his father, O'Neal Tisdale of Baltimore; one brother, Larry Cooper of Wilmington; one foster brother, Jeffrey Mikkens; one foster sister, Gina Mikkens; his grandmother, Sarah A. Shockley; seven uncles; two aunts; one great-uncle; one great-aunt; nine brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Services were in Pentecostal Church of God, Lincoln. Burial was in Siloam Church Cemetery, Slaughterneck.
