WILMINGTON - Cynthia L. DiPinto, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 9, 2009, surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Cindy was a graduate of the University of Delaware and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was most recently employed as a lobbyist with Wolf Block Public Strategies Delaware and, before that, with Wood Byrd & Associates. She previously served as Education Policy Advisor to Gov. Ruth Ann Minner and as an advisor to then Lt. Gov. Minner. Prior employment included the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, the Wilmington Economic Development Corp. and Wick & Company. Cindy was a member of the St. Francis Foundation Board of Directors. Cindy is survived by her devoted husband, James; her parents, Richard and Marilyn Waterman of Middletown; her brother, John and his fiancé Nora of Delaware City; maternal aunts, uncles and cousins from Indiana, California and Colorado; her parents-in-law, Joseph and Patricia DiPinto of Wilmington; and adopted sisters and their spouses, nieces and nephews of Wilmington. Her family offers sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice, Inc. for their care and support, and a special thanks to Dr. Waheed Shalaby of Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth's Church, Cedar and Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Cindy requested that contributions be made to either St. Elizabeth's Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805; Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (www.mskcc.org – please designate for Ovarian Cancer Research); or Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810 ( www.delawarehospice.org ).
